University of Alberta says two players hurt when team bus clips semi on QEII

EDMONTON – The University of Alberta says two of its hockey players were injured when the team’s bus was involved in a collision south of Edmonton.

A spokesman for the Edmonton-based university’s athletic department says the women’s hockey team was returning from a game in Calgary at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when their chartered bus clipped a semi that was pulled over on the side of the QEII Highway south of Leduc.

The university says the two injured players were taken to hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.

University spokesman Connor Hood says they suffered cuts from broken glass.

A game Saturday night in Edmonton between the Pandas and the University of Calgary Dinos has been postponed.

The university says in a statement that it’s thankful there were no serious injuries to its athletes or team staff.
